Our Story

10,000 Threads was founded by Fatima Camara who was born in Queens,New York and raised between Guinea, France and the United States. When Fatima was 10 years old , she was whisked away from her home to a faraway foreign land. Leaving Guinea, West Africa, for France, sent by her parents in hopes of a better education.

She would see them once a year, and each time would try to bring back a piece of her beautiful homeland. The challenge of navigating a new environment without her parents felt overwhelming, yet the love for Guinean textiles becomes her anchor, bridging the gap between two worlds. This love becomes her passion and the seed that grows into 10,000 Threads: a brand dedicated to offering a touch of African culture to those far from home, just like her.

The most common question we receive is what inspired the name 10,000 Threads so here is a fun fact:" According to National Geographic, before the 1500's, Africa was made up of 10,000 different states and autonomous tribes with distinct languages and customs." Those 10,000 different tribes left an impact in shaping the rich cultural heritage of the continent, particularly in Fashion. Our brand specializes in creating modern designs made with authentic batik fabrics from Guinea.
